Rabies Titer Tests (RNAT) explained for pet travel

A Rabies Neutralizing Antibody Titer (RNAT) test, often just called a titer test, measures the level of rabies antibodies in your pet's blood. It proves that the rabies vaccination was effective.

Strict rabies-free regions, such as Japan, Australia, and Hawaii, mandate this test. If you are traveling from an 'unlisted' or high-risk rabies country to the EU or the UK, you will also need a passing titer test.

The catch? The timeline. After the blood is drawn and sent to an approved laboratory, many countries enforce a waiting period. For example, Japan requires a 180-day wait from the date of the blood draw before your pet can enter without quarantine.
